Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is 4Stripes?

For BJJ, and in many martial arts, each stripe on your belt signifies that you are one step closer to reaching the next level. Getting the fourth stripe means you are very close to reaching a goal and if you work that little bit harder you will achieve it and attain greater knowledge. This is the ethos of our company which is why we chose the name.

    • We organize high quality immersive martial arts camps.
    • We are promoting Hong Kong as the capital of Asia for learning about and training in Jiu Jitsu (or martial arts in general).
  • WHAT DOES 4STRIPES STAND FOR?

At 4STRIPES we celebrate the best kind of awesomeness – the kind that comes from perfecting yourself. Our Mission is to promote Jiu Jitsu and martial arts in Asia, and to create opportunities to train with the world’s best instructors. If you are OK, we will make you good; If you are good, we’ll make you awesome.

  • WHY SHOULD I CHOOSE 4STRIPES?

    • 4Stripes is the only organization in Asia if not the world, that offers such immersive and complete training experiences. We ensure as low a student to teacher ratio as possible.
    • We devote more time to exploring important details as well as fundamental techniques.
    • Each training session builds on from the last through a series of drills and instruction methods.
    • We place emphasis on carefully assessing each student’s skill level and take the time to observe and correct common mistakes in technique.
    • The headline instructors and their coaches don’t just clock off and disappear after training. The aim of our camp is to give you the opportunity to really interact with them during off time and meals. Attendees are free to engage with instructors who are happy to share their experience with everyone. We at 4Stripes believe that this open atmosphere is the most important part of the camp.
  • CAN ANYBODY FROM ANY TEAM OR ASSOCIATION JOIN?

Yes! The camps are open to ALL teams and associations.

These private camps cater for all Jiu Jitsu enthusiasts, female or male and of all belt levels.

  • WHAT CAN I EXPECT TO DO AT A 4STRIPES CAMP?

4Stripes BJJ training camps bring the world’s best martial arts instructors to Hong Kong to lead, teach and share. Workshops on fitness, nutrition, flexibility, strength, movement, conditioning, yoga and meditation are also held throughout the camps with the aim of complimenting intensive BJJ training.

  • WHAT WILL BE THE LANGUAGE OF INSTRUCTION DURING THE CAMP?

All training sessions and workshops will be conducted in English.

  • SINCE THIS IS A GI ONLY CAMP, WHAT SHOULD I BRING?

This is a Gi only camp. You will need to bring your own training outfit and/or kimono/gi. For hygiene reasons, please bring as many items of training clothing as you think you will require for two days of vigorous training.

If you are travelling in from overseas for the camp, you will need all personal items that would typically be required for a trip of about five days. Of course, if you plan to stay longer then you should pack accordingly.

  • WILL YOU ACCEPT WALK-INS? CAN I JUST COME ON THE DAY?

No walk-ins. No tickets will be sold on the day of the event, so get yours now!

  • WHAT LEVEL SHOULD I BE AT IN ORDER TO PARTICIPATE?

All levels are welcome, however, our camps are rigorous and in order to get the most out of them, we would recommend that you have at least a minimum of 3 months of consistent training experience in BJJ before coming.

  • WILL I GET ENOUGH INDIVIDUAL ATTENTION FROM THE INSTRUCTOR?

Yes! This is what 4Stripes is all about. Our goal is to give every attendee the finest learning experience.

  • HOW DO I BUY TICKETS?

Click on ‘tickets’ at the Homepage. You’ll be taken through a straightforward purchasing process and an e-ticket will be e-mailed to you.

  • WHAT IS INCLUDED IN THE PRICE?

    • Two 2 hour BJJ lesson per day (one in the morning and one in the afternoon). Lessons will be designed and taught by our headline instructor.
    • Workshops between Lessons. Attendance at workshops is completely optional. The purpose of these workshops is to complement and help to improve your Jiu Jitsu, to encourage and provide information on a healthy lifestyle and to inspire self improvement.
  • ARE THERE ANY ID REQUIREMENTS FOR THE CAMP?

Only registered attendees can attend the camp and workshops. You will be asked to present a passport or other valid form of photo ID such as an identity card or driving license. The name on the document must match the name that has been registered with the camp.

We welcome practitioners of all ages however if you are under 18 your waiver form must be signed by a parent or guardian.

  • IS MY TICKET TRANSFERABLE?

Yes but please let us know in advance so that we can change the name of the registered attendee. Please note that tickets cannot be transferred and fees will not be refundable after the deadline of 1 October, 2016.

  • WHY ARE YOU HOSTING THIS IN A HOTEL?

We want this to be a shared, community experience with everyone training, eating and sleeping under one roof. Hosting the camp in a hotel is the best way to do this and has the added benefit of cutting out commuting time which means more time for training!

  • WHY DO YOU SUGGEST THAT EVERYONE STAY AT THE SAME HOTEL?

We want everyone, including instructors and coaches, to eat, sleep, dream and train jiu jitsu together. In addition to this 4Stripes has negotiated a special rate for our camp attendees.

  • CAN I JUST JOIN THE CAMP AND NOT STAY IN THE HOTEL?

Yes, but we encourage you to stay for the complete experience.

  • MEDICAL EMERGENCY OR INJURY AT THE CAMP

Hong Kong has some of the best hospitals and medical facilities in the world. Should there be a medical emergency, an ambulance will take you to the closest hospital. Please make sure you have valid medical insurance or travel insurance before you come to Hong Kong. There will also be first aid responders and equipment in the hotel to assist in the case of minor injuries.

  • IF I GET INJURED DURING THE COURSE OF THE CAMP CAN I HOLD 4STRIPES LIABLE?

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, like any other Martial Art is a contact sport and by taking part you acknowledge that there is a risk of injury or even death. By signing the waiver form and participating in a 4Stripes Brazilian Jiu Jitsu camp, its training sessions and associated workshops you are taking responsibility for any injury that might occur and neither you nor your estate will hold 4Stripes, its staff, the instructors or any other camp attendee(s) liable if any such injury or death occurs within this sporting context. You will be required to sign a waiver form before starting the camp.
